Here at Crucible, we are focused on helping our students achieve their maximum potential in an efficient manner. Our teaching pedagogy was developed after years of trial and error. From the feedback we got from both parents and students, we scrutinised our methodology and consulted with education psychology experts to refine our methods. We incorporate the various scientifically-backed methods. For instance, we revisit previous key topics at the start of class to incite long-term memory of key concepts in our students. Our worksheets are curated to ensure that questions allow students to revisit key concepts. All these to ensure that our students achieve their maximum potential effeciently without burning out.
Additionally, our lessons are highly personalised and tailored to each student. We have studied the science behind learning. As educators, we are obsessed about learning how to learn. As individuals, everyone’s learning needs and way of learning differs. During your first class, our tutors will talk to new students and understand what issues you are facing. After a few lessons, our team will accurately diagnose and pinpoint the key areas the student is lacking in before coming up with an individualised plan to help them improve. At this juncture, the journey to excellence has just begun. Follow-up is necessary and our team is committed in following up with each and every student. Students are assigned a ‘form tutor’ who will check in on their academic targets and results, even for subjects they do not follow us for. This is because we are passionate about what we do and are motivated to help students achieve their best potential.
How we do things differently:
1. Tailored to the School Syllabus
Lessons are designed to follow the school syllabus. We have learning checkpoints to ensure that our students achieves a critical level of understanding for each learning milestone. A deeper understanding of the syllabus also helps our students become more interested in learning as they reach new epiphanies in conceptual understanding. Don’t expect to walk in to a lecture with many other students from different schools; we like to create an intimate class environment with students of the same school. This allows rapport to be built quickly and for our teachers to follow the school syllabus. We don’t see a point in teaching a topic that the school isn't covering.
2. Fostering Independent Learning
Give a man a fish. Beyond the exams lays an entire lifetime of learning. As our students graduate, the academic requirements required of him increases substantially. We inculcate a sense of self-responsibility during lessons through our self-review system. Our teachers sit down with our students and a aid their progression by helping them schedule their time. We realise that many students are paralysed by the sheer amount of work to be done; by helping them break it up into steps and telling them which to prioritise, they are able to quickly improve. By teaching our students not just what to know but how to, we attempt to build the best possible foundation for his or her future. We find this is especially useful in written papers like Economics and GP, where questions are getting increasingly complex.
3. Inspiring a winning mentality
Life is full of ups and downs. Through resilience, comes breakthrough. We hope to inspire a winning mentality in every student through encouragement and goal-setting. Students are encouraged to set their academic goals which our teachers follow up on with them. By facilitating our students' to set the actionable steps he or she needs to achieve their targets, it breeds a winning mentality crucial for life’s journey. We take it upon ourselves to inspire and motivate our students. Our teachers do an academic standing report with their students after every major exam to help them take stock and plan their way as they navigate towards an A.
Tailored Education. As you can see, we are very personalised. Just like how ever student is different, every subject is different as well. It is impossible to force a simple framework upon each individual subject; instead, we approach each subject differently based on what we notice works best for ours students. At the heart of everything is our drive to help our students improve exponentially and efficiently.
